There’s More to Medieval Spain than the Inquisition
The Golden Age of Jewish Culture in Spain coincided with the Middle Ages in Europe during a period of Muslim rule of the Iberian Peninsula. Jewish religious, cultural, and economic life blossomed. Original biblical manuscripts, a Scroll of Esther and a gold Scroll of Esther case from this period are on display at the Columbus Museum of Art, on loan from the Jay and Jeannie Schottenstein Judaica collection. The varied picture of Jewish artistry in medieval Spain will be discussed at the Museum at 3:00 PM on February 28 by the Jewish Museum of New York’s Curator Emerita, Vivian Mann. Call 614-629-0359 for tickets.
