The Funny Man Had a Special Shtik for Columbus

Comedian Jack Carter, who passed away on June 28 at age 93, had a long-running comedy act similar to his contemporaries Milton Bearle and Morey Amsterdam. Well before Ron Feerer was in charge of Agudas Achim’s annual Boys Night Out event, Pic Fleishman arranged for Carter to do his routine at Agudas Achim in the 1980′s. Carter (born Jack Chakrin) also did the CTA Annual Dinner in the 1990′s. Jonny Diamond picked him up from the airport and schlepped him around town before the event. Carter bought luggage at Schottensteins. Later than evening he brought down the house: ‘When I got off the plane the sign said “Welcome to Schottensteinland.”‘
