Patty Duke’s Role as Shirley Abrams of Bexley, Ohio
Perhaps better remembered for portraying her identical cousin and Helen Keller, the late Patty Duke also won over hearts depicting Foundation fund holder Shirley Abrams in the 1987 movie, Fight for Life. Jerry Lewis played the role of Shirley’s husband, Dr. Bernard Abrams, an Orthodox Jew who served with distinction on the Foundation board — and also as president of Catholic Social Services.
In Fight for Life Dr. Abrams was portrayed by Jerry Lewis. Based on a true story, the Abrams desperately needed to get a drug approved by the FDA for their daughter Felice. They were forced to fly to England to obtain the medication and smuggle it back to Columbus. Click here for movie highlights.
