In the Name of Justice
Relatives of the late Foundation fund holder Amy Wickes will continue her efforts to assist children of incarcerated community members, through a new literacy program forged with Volunteers of America. Words Travel will enable children to strengthen ties with their incarcerated parents. The parents will read and record stories from popular children’s books. Upon completion, VOA will send the child the recorded tape, a tape player, the books, and a tote bag, helping the inmates stay connected with their children. Wickes, a former inmate and community activist, passed away last March. Volunteers of America has been a pioneer in correctional services for 121 years and is a champion in the humane treatment of prisoners. The Columbus Jewish Foundation is the fiscal agent for Amy’s charitable fund, In the Name of Justice.
