In Memoriam – Aurelia “Rela” Stern
Aurelia “Rela” Stern
April 24, 1923 to May 5, 2016
Ernie Stern, Rela’s husband, came from Austria. She came from Podkamien, Poland. She was the only Jewish girl in her class who survived the war. Rela studied medicine for two years in Vienna and immigrated to the United States with her parents in 1947. Quickly thereafter, she moved to Columbus, Ohio and began graduate studies at The Ohio State University in bacteriology. She and Ernie met at OSU Hillel. They married in 1948 and immediately became members of the young Couples Club at Temple Israel, then known as the Bryden Road Temple. She and Ernie became community leaders, grateful to pay back unforgotten gifts of kindness that gave both of them second chances. We offer condolences to Ernie, daughters Linda Kass (Frank) and Estelle (Terry) Rodgers and their families.
