Feibel Law Lecture Raised the Bar

During its thirty years of programs on Judaism and Law, the Pearl and Troy Feibel Lecture on Judaism and Law unfailingly raised the bar. This past week’s presentation was no exception, focusing on Kiryas Joel, an entirely Orthodox village in upstate New York where 22,000 Satmar Hasidim conduct their entire lives in Yiddish. Despite its insularity, Kiryas Joel engages the non-Jewish political world to achieve its ends, hosting and lobbying politicians, and parlaying its homogeneous voters into a singularly successful exertion of American interest group politics.
