Ernie Stern’s funeral service was held this January 27 at Temple Israel.
We are honored to share our 1995 testimonial video (click here) recognizing his manifold accomplishments.
Ernie’s Endowment Book of Life inscription reflects his sweet nature and depth of character:
“I remember the past, live in the present and dream of the future – I was born in Vienna, Austria. In 1938, after Austria became part of Nazi Germany, a kind stranger from Chicago sent an affidavit enabling my parents and me to escape to America. I was 15 years old at the time, but this selfless act of a perfect stranger made a profound impression on me, and helped shape my outlook on life and desire to help others with my time and resources. My dear lifemate, Rela, with a similar background of having been rescued and saved, supported and encouraged me. We both feel strongly that we must pay back by endowing programs to ensure that future generations will have the opportunities we had.”
